1 / What height for a desk?

In order not to end up with muscle pain in the back and in the neck at the end of the day, it is essential to have an office adapted to your needs. Most of the desks found on the market have a height of between 60 and 80cm. Note that for a person measuring 1m75, the ideal height would be 66 cm; the height of your desk is obviously to be adapted according to your height. It is also necessary to adapt the height of your desk according to the position of your computer screen, if you have one. To be sure you are not mistaken, do not hesitate to test the desk in store with a suitable chair!

2 / How to make an office?

Making your own desk has several advantages: no more wasted time finding the desk of your dreams, no more problems with dimensions and storage, and above all, you will save money! To make your desk, you will need the following materials: a large wooden board, trestles or four legs (and something to fix them on), paint, varnish, brushes, a pencil, a ruler, a set square, a sander, a jigsaw. Start by cutting the board to the desired dimensions; if you opt for trestles, consider adapting the width of the desk. Then sand the edges so that they are smooth. Paint the desk the color of your choice, and varnish it to protect it. Then install the trestles or the feet. If you wish, you can even install a storage box on one side instead of the legs or one of the two trestles. If you want a very long desk, consider incorporating intermediate legs if your board is not thick enough. And There you go ; at work ! You just have to install your Eames chair !

3 / How to decorate your office?

To work in the best possible conditions, it is important to feel good at your desk. This is why it is advisable to add some personal decoration touches. First of all, you can paint your desk if the color does not suit you, or paste a special coating of the pattern of your choice. Then, if you don't want to clutter up your desk too much, attach a shelf above it to install some decorative elements; photo frames, plants, candles, statuettes,… There is plenty to choose from, choose what you like! If you have a large desk, you can arrange these items right on it. Also consider buying a nice desk lamp; as much to combine the useful with the pleasant.

4 / Which chair to choose for your office?

The choice of office chair is very important. It basically depends on how long you plan to spend there. If your working time is less than 4 hours, a classic chair can do the trick. Otherwise, invest in a real office chair; this will prevent you from having to suffer muscle pain at the end of the day. Office chairs have several options to increase comfort. First of all, you can adjust it in height; To be properly seated, your femora must form a right angle with your shins and with your back. Then the armrests are sometimes adjustable; the ideal is that they are at the same height as that of the desk. As for the backrest, it must cover the entire back and be able to tilt back to accompany it when it is in motion. Finally, the casters are an element that greatly facilitate mobility; some are designed for soft floors (carpets, rugs), and others for harder floors. Now that you know a little more about office chairs, all you have to do is choose the right one!

5 / What lighting to choose for your office?

Office lighting is a point that is too often overlooked, but it is much more important than we imagine. The better the lighting, the more comfortable you will be to work, and the more productive you will be. The ideal is to install your office facing a large window, in order to benefit from a source of natural light. Note that cool, light colors such as white and gray optimize natural light. If you work on a computer, be careful not to put your desk with your back to a window; your screen could become unreadable at the first rays of the sun. For artificial lighting, you have several solutions: a desk lamp to put directly on it, a led ceiling light to be installed on the ceiling for overhead lighting, or a floor lamp to be placed next to your desk. If you feel the need, feel free to use several different lights!
